Originally created by Mr. Alfred Clarke to meet the supply needs of his
award-winning Airedale Terriers, Care-A-Lot Pet Supply has developed into
one of the leading Pet Supply companies in the nation. From its catalog
and online store to its two retail stores serving the Newport News and
Virginia Beach, VA areas, Care-A-Lot is dedicated to great customer service,
speed of delivery, and meeting your every pet supply need.
In 1983, after 24 years as a supply officer in the Navy, Mr. Alfred Clarke,
with his wife Mary Clarke, started Mancon, Inc., a company which provides
material support and logistics services to the federal government. In
1988, Mr. Clarke purchased an Airedale Terrier and his son Robert purchased
a Labrador Retriever. Soon after, as a hobby, they began competing with
them at dog shows. After attending several shows, Mr. Clarke discovered
that the supplies needed to maintain “Show Quality Dogs” were
difficult to obtain. Due to the lack of local suppliers and the unreliability
of catalog-based suppliers, Mr. Clarke decided to start his own pet supply
company. Hence, the birth of Care-A-Lot Pet Supply, specializing in providing
hard to find items and providing excellent customer service.
In 1996, Mr. Clarke and his wife retired from Care-A-Lot and his son,
Robert Clarke, took over as President. Since then, Robert has implemented several new
ideas, including a color catalog, an online ecommerce interface, and an
additional store location. These new developments helped elevate the company
into its current status as a national pet supply distributor, as well
as, having the largest pet supply store in the state of Virginia.
Here at Care-A-Lot Pet Supply we view our pets as family and our company
stems from our passion to provide them with only the best. We may
not be the biggest company in the industry, but we strive to be the best
company for you and your pets.
