Origin
|
The Billy Dog is a combination of the Montemboeuf, Ceris and Larye breeds, which
are now extinct. Foxblood was introduced to the Billy to keep bloodlines fresh.
This breed was developed in the 19th century in Poitou, France by Monsieur Gaston
Hublot du Rivault, who resided at the Chateau de Billy in Poitou. Though virtually
unknown outside of France, the Billy is one of the most popular pack hounds for
large game hunting. They are master deer hunters and its bay differs in tone by
the greatness of the game he has sighted. The breed standard was established in
1886. They are recognized by the UKC.
