Catalan Sheepdog
The Catalan Sheepdog is a medium-sized dog with a beautiful coat. The head is strong
and slightly convex with a pronounced stop. The high-set ears are drop and triangle-shaped.
The eyes are round with dark rims and are dark amber in color. The chest is deep
and the back is straight. The feet are oval with well-arched toes and strong black
pads. The natural tail is long and well-feathered. The unique coat of this breed
is long, flat and rough with a thick undercoat. They have a full beard and mustache.
Coat colors are created by mixing hairs of various shades including fawn, reddish-brown,
gray, black and white. Cropped ears and a docked tail are acceptable for working
dogs. Some in this breed are born tailless.

Temperament

The Catalan Sheepdog is intelligent, energetic and courageous. They are outstanding
herders. Not only is he obedient to his handler's commands, he often takes the initiative
when directing the flocks. This alert and brave breed makes an excellent guard dog.
They are loyal and gentle with the children in the family.

Living Conditions
|
The Catalan Sheepdog should not live in an apartment. They need plenty of space

Origin
|
The Catalan Sheepdog originated in Catalonia, Spain. They are descended from the
ancient Pyrenees sheepdogs. During the Spanish Civil war, the Catalan served as
a messenger and sentry. They are recognized by the United Kennel Club.
