Although small in size, he has the heart of a lion. Little Quila lives in Calera, AL with his owners, Terry and Clare Lamb. The 7-year-old Chihuahua was with Clare in the bedroom when she began to feel ill. Quila watched as Clare grew worst, suffer a major seizure, and then became unconscious. The little canine jumped into action and ran to alert the family member to the medical emergency.
The first person he found was Clare's son Andrew. He scratched at Andrew's leg and then walked towards the door. He repeated this action until the boy realized that the family pet wanted him to follow. Alerting his father to the situation, they both went into the bedroom where they found Clare lying over the side of the bed and unconscious with blue lips and ice cold pale skin.
Clare was rushed to the hospital where it was discovered that she had suffered a grand mal seizure and that she had pneumonia. The family was also told that had she been left alone for another 5 to 10 minutes without medical treatment, she probably would have died.
After spending two days in the hospital, Clare was released from the hospital. According to Terry, Quila was always protective of Clare, but now he never leaves her side. This is truly a dog that loves his owner, which acted without an agenda, with unconditional love.
Because of his devotion to his owner, Quila was nominated for The Humane Society of the United States' Annual Dogs of Valor Awards which recognizes dogs for their devotion to their owners in times of crisis.
