Temperament
|
PBGVs are happy dogs that love to be active. They are energetic and independent
but can have their own agenda. They need a strong owner who will let them know who
is top dog. They can be stubborn and independent but are always willing to please.
They get along well with children, strangers and other dogs. They should not be
trusted with non-canine pets. This breed can be a bit of an escape artist, jumper
and a digger. Keep this breed busy as they can "create" their own entertainment.
This dog can be crate trained.

Origin
|
The PBGV has its origin in the Vendee region of France. The hounds of Vendee are
some of the oldest varieties, bred directly from the white southern Hound with crosses
to rough-coated dogs reportedly from Italy. Crosses also occurred to the Griffon
Nivernais. One of the first breeders was a king's recorder (clerk) in the 15th century.
This breed is recognized by the AKC and the UKC.
