The Canine Chronicles Directory
Ariegeois
The Ariegeois is a small, finely built member of the "Blue mottled breeds of the
Midi". The head is long, light and free of any wrinkles. The skull is narrow, never
wide. The stop is only barely defined and the nose is black. The eyes are usually
chestnut brown and the ears are thin, set low and well back and turn inwards. The
long and slightly arched neck is light and fine with no trace of dewlap. The forelegs
of this breed are strong and straight and the hindquarters are flat but muscular
which gives them their propelling power. The tail tapers to a point and is carried
like a saber when the dog is working. The Ariegeois is white and black, with white
being the predominant coat color.

Temperament
|
The Ariegeois is friendly, vocal, charming and outgoing, though some in this breed
may be a bit reserved. They should never be shy or vicious. This breed works closely
with the other hounds and their handlers; therefore, aggression towards other hounds
and people is considered a fault. They are a vocal breed with a surprisingly deep,
powerful voice.
