Chart Polski
The Chart Polski (pronounced Heart Pole-ski) is also known as the Polish Greyhound.
They are strong, cleanly cut and long. The skull is flat and the stop is not very
pronounced. The muzzle has strong jaws and the nose is black or dark in color. The
eyes are fairly large and almond-shaped. They have a lively and penetrating gaze.
Colors range from dark brown to amber. The ears are medium-sized and fairly narrow.
The body of this breed is long, lean, and muscular with a powerful neck. The back
is straight and they have a deep tuck-up. The tail is long, thick at the base and
tapers. It is carried low when the dog is at rest and forms an upward curve or ring
when the dog is alert. The coat is fairly hard but not wiry. The underside of the
tail forms a brush. All coat colors are permitted. This breed is much more robust
and less fine than that of other shorthaired sight hounds.

Temperament
|
The Chart Polski is even tempered, trusting, reserved and brave. As with most sight
hounds, when in chase, they are extremely fast, very agile and relentless. Their
reactions are quick and ruthless. They are self-assured, confident and brave. They
are skillful hunters.

Health Problems
|
This is a hardy breed with no known hereditary diseases.

Living Conditions
|
The Chart Polski will do fine with apartment living but needs regular exercise.
They should be let off of the leash in an enclosed or safe area.

Exercise
|
This breed needs plenty of exercise to maintain their fitness level. They do well
as a jogging companion and running alongside a bicycle, but you must react quickly
if something catches his eye and he bolts after it. This breed should be allowed
off lead to run in a safe place.

|
The coat of this breed should be brushed regularly.

Origin
|
The Polish Greyhound is a descendent of the Asian Greyhound and probably Saluki-typed
hounds. The breed was used in the harsh Polish climate for hunting hare, fox, roe
deer and wolves. They were recognized by the United Kennel Club on January 1, 1996.
