We all know dogs are resilient animals. Whether it's learning basic training, being involved in search and rescue, service work, or knowing just when you need comforting, they continue to show us how great they really are. Is it possible they could even be taught another way to communicate, with sign language?
A 10 year old girl named Julia did just that. Walter, a Terrier-Chihuahua puppy mix has learned how to communicate a whole new way and can now sit, ask for food and respond to his name all through sign language. Walter is really getting the hang of sign language and it is only a matter of time before he learns to do more.
Both Julia and Walter were born deaf, but fell in love with each other the moment they met at the Pasadena Humane Society. Walter was overlooked by many people due to his hearing impairment and was the last dog of his litter to be adopted. Julia and Walter were the perfect pair.
A video of Julia's signing lessons has now gone viral. It has affected so many people, especially within the deaf community, and has inspired others to share their stories. Dogs have continued to impress people as they become more and more part of the family. We cannot wait to hear what else is in store for these two.
