4 Fun Ways to Spend Leap Day
Every four years, we gain an extra day. This time, we are fortunate to have an extra Saturday in the month to spend how we wish. While dogs have no concept of time (but if they do, they have yet to make us aware of it), it’s safe to say they will look forward to more leisure time spent with you and your family.
What would you do with your dog if you had an extra free day with them? Your pet may be content with their favorite dog park and/or chew toy, but why not make Leap Day special? If your dog adapts easily to change and behaves well in new situations this is a great time to try something different.
Visit a new-to-you destination. Active dogs who love long walks may enjoy the day with you at the beach or on a winding hiking trail. Look for a place in your community that you have yet to explore.
If you love to travel, book a stay in a pet-friendly hotel or campground and explore a town or state/national park you’ve always wanted to see. Be sure to do your research and check for leash laws and other regulations before you leave.
Enjoy a “spa day.” It’s okay if you don’t take your dog to a professional groomer on a regular basis. Many pet owners handle bathing and brushing duties as a quiet bonding activity. On Leap Day, though, why not treat your pup to a bit of luxury like a full shampoo and nail trim? That clean, fresh feeling will brighten your dog’s spirits the whole day.
If you live in Hampton Roads or the Moyock area, the amazing groomers at Care-A-Lot Pet Resorts can help make Leap Day special for your dog. Reserve an appointment online.
Celebrate with a new toy. One doesn’t need a special occasion to gift a dog with a new ball or stuffed animal, but a surprise on Leap Day is certainly welcome. At Care-A-Lot Pet Supply, we offer a wide selection of dog toys for play, dental health, and exercise at our four locations and online shop.
Play longer. Time is the key theme here. You have more of it this year; spend it with your dog enjoying each other’s company. Toss a stick in the backyard, cuddle up on the couch and watch cartoons, give them two treats instead of one, and take pictures to share in your social. Whatever you plan for this day, your dog will surely leap up to join you.
